Developing Talent with Learning and Development Manager Sean Ongers

By nurturing talent, creativity and capability within Informa Exhibitions, we are building a stronger foundation upon which to serve and support the customer communities within the the markets where we work. Here, we talk to Learning and Development Manager Sean Ongers about how he's working to help our colleagues hone their skills.

As Sean Ongers sees it, Informa Exhibitions can only grow if it offers its colleagues a clear path to develop and succeed and ensures they have access to the right level of training and support to thrive professionally.

"My role is to support the business as it grows by striving to provide our colleagues with the skills and support needed to deliver Informa Exhibitions' corporate vision," Sean says.

He joined Informa Exhibitions in 2017, bringing with him a broad range of experience with a wide variety of learning and development (L&D) programs across many different industries and working environments.

Now, he is a key player in the implementation of a new learning and development program that forms a vital part of our strategy to promote excellence, both within the business and amongst the wider industry.

The last year has been a busy one for Sean and his team, as they travelled to 8 cities in 6 different countries to spread the word about L&D across the business. Over 600 colleagues worldwide attended sessions to learn about the new initiatives and tools available to them, which include the LinkedIn Learning online platform and a range of classroom training options.

Sean’s strategy is uniquely colleague-driven, shaped by four training councils (People, Sales, Marketing and Operations) which meet regularly to provide input on and validate the business's classroom learning offering. The result is a honed, relevant catalogue of training, with 81% of delegates feeling positive about their training experience.

So, how has Sean found his experience in Informa Exhibitions so far?

"What a fantastic environment to join. The buzz and challenge which circulates in teams around the world is incredible. The exhibition world is all about people and relationships, so if you love being around enthusiastic, tenacious and driven individuals who are always willing to learn from others then this is a place you will thrive!"
