CFDA Announce New Pilot Programme

China’s Food and Drug Administration (CFDA) recently announced a new pilot programme that would replace the review and approval process with a more streamlined registration and filing process in selected trade zones. The pilot is being launched in Pudong District, Shanghai and will be extended to 10 pilot free trade zones in Tianjin, Liaoning, Zhejiang, Fujian, Henan, Hubei, Guangdong, Chongqing, Sichuan, and Shaanxi.

This new policy will be applied from December 21, 2018 for any non-specific purpose make-up product that is imported for the first time in any of these to pilot free trade zones and whose local importer’s registered address is in the pilot zone.

L’Oreal Launches Three New Products in the Custom Cosmetics Market
L’Oreal’s France-based Technology Incubator recently unveiled its latest innovations in bespoke cosmetics. The three new products under the Custom D.O.S.E. product line include a personalised facial scanning and serum system, a tailor-made foundation, and a 3D hair coloring app. The Custom D.O.S.E. product is expected to be sold through dermatology clinics in the US. Le Teint Particulier boasts 8,000 shades and 72,000 possible customised options. After a custom foundation is made for the client, it will be labeled and coded to enable easy refill. L’Oreal showcased its professional 3D hair coloring app, Style My Hair, as an augmented reality app developed in collaboration with Modiface.

13 Sephora Accelerate Program 2018 Participants Includes Chinese Entrepreneur
French cosmetics retailer, Sephora, recently announced the 13 women entrepreneurs who will participate in its 2018 Sephora Accelerate Program. This year’s participants come from the US, Canada, Mexico, Brazil, France, Switzerland, and China. China’s participant, Hu Shuting, is CEO of SkinData.
Dr. Hu Shuting became the first Chinese winner of the IFSCC award in 2014. She is also a member of the Hong Kong Society of Cosmetics Chemists. The Sephora Accelerate Program was created in 2016 as part of the Sephora Stands program. Sephora Accelerate’s goal is to create a community of female entrepreneurs in the beauty industry and develop 50 top women entrepreneurs by 2020.

Mamonde Enters the US Market
Amore Pacific brand, Mamonde, recently announced its launch in Ulta, one of America’s largest beauty chains. This marks the brands first step into the US Market.

Established in 1991, Mamonde began to expand from its home China market in 2005. It established footholds in Thailand and Malaysia in 2016 and Singapore in 2017. After extensive product tests, it finalised its entry in the US via Ulta’s retail network of some 1,000 stores across North America. So far, Mamonde products are already available in 200 of the chain’s stores.
